With over 39 million members, AARP is the leading nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people age 50 and over in the United States. Approximately half of the people in this age group in the U.S. are AARP members.

Health care is a critical issue for people age 50 and over and a major focus of AARP. Divided We Fail (www.dividedwefail.org), an AARP campaign in conjunction with other membership organizations, is engaging the American people, businesses, non-profit organizations, and elected officials in finding bipartisan solutions to ensure affordable, quality health care and long-term financial security for all Americans.

In America today, it is a struggle for millions of people to afford the health care they need. The cost of rising health insurance premiums and the prospect of losing coverage altogether has become a constant concern for far too many American families. Something has gone wrong when millions of people are just one medical emergency away from bankruptcy and financial ruin.

Cancer can present this type of challenge. Even testing can be prohibitively expensive for those without adequate insurance coverage, and a lack of screening can lead to much greater problems. Treatment for cancer is even more expensive and is potentially unaffordable or even financially ruinous for many.

AARP believes that getting the health care they need shouldn't bankrupt Americans as individuals, businesses, or government. America needs an affordable, quality health care system. That's why AARP supports Stand Up To Cancer - to help find a better way.
