On January 26, 2008 my life changed forever. That was the day I was diagnosed with colon/rectal cancer. I was only recently married, only six months when I was given the news after having a scope. My immediate thoughts were what was we going to do. My wife at that time and I began a web search of this particular cancer and then started a search for doctors who could perform surgery if needed. We were very lucky to locate a doctor who was one of the finest in this area. I began pre-surgery chemotherapy along with radiation treatments for six weeks. I had my surgery on 13 June 2008. The radiation completely destroyed the tumor. My surgery was very successful with my pathology showing no tumor or cancer in the affected area. One side effect of my surgery was that I and my surgeon where hoping to have reversal surgery. I presently have a ostomy, in which I wear a small bag attached to my stomach in which my small intestine allows me rid my body of what a normal person would have complete bowel movements through your normal process. My hope is to eventually have this removed. I'm healthy and finally able to get back to a somewhat normal life. Unfortually, I'm not married. Did my cancer cause this to happen? I speak to my former wife and I guess there were other factors that played into the picture. I made my peace many years ago. I'm an Army veteran and former Federal Police officer. I miss it. Hopefully I can get back to it. Take care, and enjoy each and enjoy everyday, for today is here and tomorrow is not a promise.

It is a good thing that you were ready about your condition and its treatment. Radiation, chemotherapy and surgery are the present management for cancer.
