SU2C School Clubs - Getting Started

I’d like to start an SU2C club at my school. What do I do?
You can start by downloading an SU2C School Club Application. Once you fill this out, return it to SU2C via email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or via fax at 424.283.3700. Please allow 10 business days for us to process your paperwork.

My SU2C club has been approved! Now what?
Once your SU2C club has been approved, you will be given special instructions on how to access the SU2C Up2 You Toolkit. The toolkit provides a wealth of SU2C materials, videos, posters and music that your club can use to help with recruitment, spreading the word, or for use at club events.

Does my club have to be school based?
Yes. At this time we will only work with clubs affiliated with schools. Make sure to check with your school for any guidelines or requirements they might have for setting up a club.

Do I need an advisor to start a club?
Yes. SU2C requires that your club have an advisor who is at least 18 years old.

Do I have to set up officers in our club?
There is no required way to structure your SU2C club – it’s up to you! We encourage you to involve everyone and utilize the strengths of each of your members.

How often do I need to host meetings?
There’s no one way to organize an SU2C club—you decide. You can have meetings as often as you like and as needed based on the projects the club has in the works. However, regular meetings are recommended as a good way to keep members interested and involved in the cause.

Does SU2C require our club to do anything specific?
SU2C does not require your club to perform any specific activities – it’s your choice. Show us how you take a stand and change the odds for your generation by creating programs to raise awareness at your school and in your community, planning fundraising events, inviting guest speakers that have been touched by cancer, etc. Be creative and make it personal.

Are there any official SU2C events that my club can participate in?
Yes! SU2C will be planning special challenges, promotions and campaigns that only SU2C clubs will have the opportunity to participate in.

Grassroots Fundraising Events – Getting Started

I’d like to plan a grassroots fundraising event. How do I get started?
You can start by downloading the SU2C Grassroots Fundraising Proposal Form. Once you fill this out completely, return it to SU2C via email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or via fax at 424.283.3700. Please allow 10 business days for us to process your paperwork.

We have a great idea for an event! How soon do we need to contact SU2C prior to the event?
Please contact SU2C about your event no less than 30 days prior to the event.

I submitted my Grassroots Fundraising Proposal. How long will it take to for someone to get back to me?
Please allow 10 business days for a representative from SU2C to respond to your Grassroots Fundraising Proposal. If your proposal is accepted, you will be given special instructions on how to access our Up2 You Toolkit that includes a wealth of information and materials you can use to help get you started.

My fundraising event was approved! How do I access the Up2 You Toolkit to help me get started with my event?
Once your SU2C grassroots fundraising event has been approved, you will be given special instructions on how to access the Up2 You Toolkit. The toolkit provides a wealth of materials, videos, posters and music that you can use at your event and to help you spread the word.

I have a great idea for an event, but it’s not one of the events listed on the website. Can I create my own event?
We encourage you to be as creative as possible and to create a unique and personal event that shows how you, your school, your business or your entire community are standing up to cancer. The events outlined on our website are only suggestions.

Am I required to create an SU2C online team for my fundraising event?
No. You are not required to set up an online team; however, we highly recommended it as it provides you with online tools to track your fundraising efforts and to help you share information about your event.

What is the difference between a Public and a Private fundraising team?
Teams can be set to either Public or Private. Public teams allow anyone to join the team. In addition, your team members can invite other members. Think of it as being the leader of a movement. A private team is perfect for fundraising with friends, family or a small group. In a private team only the captain can invite new members to the team.

Will I be able to see who donated to my team?
If you are the Team Captain, you will have the tools to see who donated to your team, when and how much.

Are there any restrictions to the activities permitted at events benefitting SU2C?
We hope that you will be as creative as possible in helping us to raise awareness and funds to support SU2C’s groundbreaking cancer research; however, we do not permit events benefitting SU2C to include lotteries, gambling, raffles or drawings as part of their fundraising activities. Additionally, we do not allow for SU2C merchandise to be resold for fundraising purposes.

Can SU2C arrange for a celebrity or a representative from the charity to participate in my event?
We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support of our SU2C grassroots fundraisers hosting events all over the country. Unfortunately, due to the volume of these events, we cannot personally participate or arrange for celebrities to participate in these events.

Can you promote my event on the SU2C website or in the SU2C newsletter?
Given the number of grassroots fundraising events happening in schools, businesses and communities everywhere, we are unable to promote each and every event on our website or in our newsletter. However, please check back with us often as we may feature special opportunities to highlight grassroots events on su2c.org.

In addition, to help with promoting your event, your SU2C team page provides you with an easy way for you to share event and fundraising information via email, Facebook and Twitter.

Can I use SU2C’s tax-exempt status when purchasing goods or services for my event?
Federal tax law prohibits Grassroots Fundraisers from using SU2C’s tax-exempt status when purchasing goods or services from suppliers or vendors for their events.

"There's no age limit on cancer. We've all been affected. My classmates and I wanted to show the families in our school that lost someone how much we care so we helped organize a student concert to benefit SU2C."

- Nicole G., New Caanan, CT
