My Bucket List Ride (Four Corners of the USA)

Started by Fred Carter on 02/07/2012

Our Mission

Since my diagnosis with Stage Four Stomach Cancer (Sept 2011), I've held onto the hope that I would be around long enough to do a lot of riding in the summer of 2012. With the help of radiation, chemo, and thousands of prayers, it looks like that may become a reality. My goal is to reach the four corners of the US; Key West, San Ysidro, Blaine, WA, and Madawaska, ME before Labor Day. My hope is that the ride will help raise cancer awareness and that this team will be able to raise money for cancer research. Background on me: retired Navy, also worked for the General Services Administration, National Institutes of Health, and the US Army (Go Fort Lee!). Hope to see you on the road! Life is good, Live it well!

Update on The Bucket List Wish Foundation

September 17, 2012 8:08 AM

Not sure if anyone gets these messages, but it seems important to document progress. So, the Foundation has moved forward with a website (, has been incorporated as a non stock (nonprofit) corporation, had its first Board of Directors meeting, and has a legal advisor. The big thing left to do for launch is to get tax exempt status from the IRS. Oh, we also have a request for a wish! Really looking forward to getting things off the ground and helping people complete a Bucket List wish... Hope all is well with you and yours and, as always, Life is good, Live it well, and, Thanks for listening... :o)

How About A Bucket List Wish Foundation?

August 07, 2012 4:04 PM

ALL, First, thank you all so much for your generous donations and continued support. We're almost at 25% of the original goal! And, we've made a difference in cancer research! Go us! I recently completed another "Bucket List" ride in which I covered over 6500 miles and went all the way to Newfoundland and the eastern most point in North America. During the ride I decided that when I got home I would turn my attention to starting a nonprofit organization for helping adults with terminal (or life threatening) medical conditions fulfill a bucket list wish. I only get so much space to write in the message box, so I'll end by saying, again, thank you, thank you, thank you. Will post more in the future...

Almost to the last corner. About 12,000 miles on the trip, so far. Tired, but definitely going to make it!

Ride Update

May 27, 2012 6:06 PM

We're in Austin, TX and it's the end of day ten on the ride. So far, it's been a blast. Some hard riding days (lots of miles, hours, and heat), but really good. If you haven't already found me on Facebook, please do. Rhonda and I have been making daily video updates and posting pictures. Also, I just donated $100.00 to the team, 50 for the first corner and 50 for the first 5000 miles on the bike. I think it's actually got over 8K on it, but I'll put another 50 in when we break 10K. As always, LIG, LIW, and, TFL... :o)

Getting Close to Launch

May 15, 2012 6:06 PM

Everything looks good for getting underway on the big ride this Friday. Friday is also mine and Rhonda's anniversary (27 Years) and our first stop is Durham, NC to see our son and take in the show WICKED at the Durham Performing Arts Center. Also, big news, not only are the folks at SU2C working on fixing things on the site (Thanks, Jenny!), but I also had an interview (Thanks, Lauren!) that will likely be published sometime next week. I'm not sure exactly how it gets published, but it will be somewhere on the SU2C site. More to follow on that! Ok, enough out of me for now. As always, life is good, live it well, and, thanks for listening... :o)
