Remembering Farrah Fawcett

Like many high school girls in the '80s, I ran home after school for two things: my mom's cooking and Charlie's Angels re-runs. From the first moment when Farrah Fawcett busted out of the screen toting a gun and a perfect up-do, to last month when her raw documentary "Farrah's Story" showed the world the harsh realities of battling cancer, Farrah has been an icon for women everywhere.

Stand Up To Cancer remembers and applauds Farrah, who passed away this morning, for her bravery and commitment to the fight against cancer. A star has been launched in SU2C's Constellation in her honor. To add your own tribute note to Farrah's star, please click here.

Hi
My beloved brother Garry passed 2-1/2 years ago from cancer. I battle pain from multiple surgeries work and sports related. Now wheel-chair bound from spinal cord into needed reconstructive Bowel,SupraPubic from all of it. Masses where now discovered absolutely removed, with biopcy this past week from bladdar. Now waiting for pathology and surgical eval.I am pretty anxious. Unlike healing from bones-joint opps the thought of cancer even scares this tuff former hockey player. I have a lab-k9 as the love is healing from my pet "Abba". I will fight whatever is there. Once I find out ,I have suport.
I have a spiritual strength as well.

Like Ms Faucet, my life was effected by that terrible c word. My life partner was diagnosed with an incurrable cancer in 2004. which lasted in their body for exactly 23 months. As I watched in horror this ugle disease change both of our lifes. It was the request of my partner to die at home. When the end was near I took time off work so that I could spend as much time with her as possible. It was probably the worst and best time of my life. I miss Marti terribly, but I know that she is in a better place. My life is richer for just being able to spend the short time with her. I truly beleived that when I pitched my last pitch in my first game of the spring in 2006 that she would take her last breath, however, the weather did not comply. She took her last breath on April 14,2006.

I remember her in the movie with Chevy Chase and Johnathan Taylor Thomas called Man of the House, I loved her in that. She fought hard and battled long. My thoughts and prayers go out to all her family and friends.

Today is a very sad day. I am saddened by the passing of a wonderful person, and the world is a better place for having Farrah in it, no matter how long it was for.
I lost both my parents to cancer in the last 12 months, and cancer is a terrible cruel disease that needs to be and ended...
