Cuck Fancer: Ben Teller's Last Vlog

If you're one of the few who haven't been following the story of Ben Teller through his "vlogs" (video + blog = vlog) over on SUTV, now's your chance to get caught up before he posts his last SU2C vlog today. Ben was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma as a teenager, but he's not letting that keep him from having fun - or from helping others. By selling $2 "cuck fancer" bracelets to help raise funds for cancer research, Ben really has, as he would put it, made cancer his bitch.

Check out Ben's vlogs here, and make cancer your bitch by donating to SU2C!

New as of 8/30:
Ben is now making his cuck fancer bracelets available for purchase at:
cuck-fancer.com

Searched many sites and e-bay but cannot find any.

Posted by Dj | August 24, 2008 1:53 PM

Im glad there is someone doing this. My mother has breast cancer and it is really hard on the family.

I, too, was diagnosed with Hodgkins in 2006 and BEAT it---hope and determination is the name of the game. I'm considerably older than you, and chemo certainly was no walk in the park, but we made it through and I'm better than I've ever been. I would like to purchase a braclet if they are still available. Stay healthy first and foremost.

I have to say, Ben, we need more people like you. My father was diagnosed with Lymphoma, and was emaciated because of it. Thankfully, he is now in remission.

I want to buy your bracelet, and give homage to all those who are suffering from this horrible disease.

Keep making Cancer your bitch, bro'! God bless you. You are true inspiration.

Cuck Fancer!

Hi Folks,
I wanted to write all of the producers and contributors to this great show you guys/gals are doing this September 5th. I am sure it will get the word out that cancer touches all of us in one way or the other, sometimes a distant friend; sometimes it comes knocking on ones door?
I am one of those folks who opened that door some 5 ? years ago to find that at age 50 I had a rare form of Skin Cancer caller Merkel Cell Carcinoma. First, I thought no big deal people do not die from skin cancer. Do they? They I remembered a story I saw on TV a few months before my diagnosis, The actress Courtney Cox was hosting some awards show and she introduced her ailing Father (step Father) I think. She said he had Merkel Cell Cancer. Hey, that is what they said I had. Within weeks of that show I read that the man had passed on, died a short time later. My own experience was I had a 5.2 mm tumor they thought was a cyst on my thigh. (I was 50 years old and a Full Time Police Officer in excellent health) I fit none of the so-called profiles for this cancer except this lump. After the first surgery the doctors told me I had one of the rarest cancers they had ever seen, that left untreated, I would be dead by Christmas of that year 2003. Even if treated I was told I had 2 maybe three years at the most if they found it evaded my lymph glands. Two surgeries later I had the tumor and the two lymph glands in my pelvis removed that had metastasized Merkel Cell Cancer in them. Lots of radiation, quick treatment by the best doctors at Dana Farber in Boston stopped this cancer in me. Nevertheless, for most it just consumes them quickly. The leading doctor/researcher on Merkel cell cancer treated me. Here is a little blip on the cancer written up by fox news this year; ?Merkel cell carcinoma provides a poignant glimpse of the desperate intersection of research dollars and the suffering wrought by rare diseases.
It is a cancer only recognized as distinct from melanoma ? even more aggressive, and needing different treatment ? about 15 years ago. Diagnoses have tripled to about 1,500 a year.
Here's the rub: The first sign is a painless bump, often reddish to purple, that can resemble a benign cyst, confusing even dermatologists about whether a biopsy's needed. However, Merkel cell carcinoma spreads rapidly once that bump appears. A third of patients die in three years, double melanoma's mortality.
Yet there have been no well-controlled studies of the best treatment. Intense radiation is key ? unlike melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma seems unusually radiation-sensitive, says Nghiem (pronounced Nee-ahm). There is no evidence that adding chemotherapy right away helps, and it may even worsen patients' chances, he adds.?
Some recent persons whom are much more familiar than even Ms. Cox?s Dad is who recently have passed due to Merkel Cell Cancer are.
* David Brudnoy Boston talk radio host
* Al Copeland New Orleans Entrepreneur, Powerboat Racer, former owner of Popeye?s Chicken.
* Max Perutz Nobel-prize winning chemist
* Lindsay Thompson Former Premier of Victoria, Australia
* Edward Utley President of Geico
* Joe Zawinul Jazz-Fusion Pioneer
* Jerry Wachter Photographer for Baltimore oriels
Today I ask that maybe someone in your organization can even mention this deadfall form of cancer. I am a member of a Google group http://groups.google.com/group/merkelcell started by a victim of this cancer himself. At that time, I knew of no one surviving and have actually never met another survivor myself in person. Nevertheless, we are out here, mostly due to our fast treatment from doctors like this fellow Paul Nghiem. He has a research lab doing the best he can to solve the cancer and saves hundreds of us a year I am sure.
http://www.merkelcell.org
http://www.pnlab.org
Please look at these few sites. I am willing to speak to anyone about this cancer, my good friend George Campbel the founder of the Google group is well versed as well. Maybe a simple post to your site listing the Google group would help. I am sure Dr. Nghiem who has been published in many many articles would be more than pleased to here from your group and I am sure he can add to your research quests. Do you know that recently Merkel Cell Cancer was found to be linked to a virus? The same researcher in PA who linked cervical cancer found Merkel Cell to have a similar tag attached to it. Now that is something I hope someday will help all us cancer victims.
If you would like to talk directly with me email, me back and I will call or give you my telephone number. Hey, I have a radio face but I am not camera shy and would gladly speak to your group in any form. Thanks for listening, and be assured there are lots of us out here waiting to see this great show!

Thank you, Amanda, for being so brave and sharing your memories about your mother's battle with cancer. Your comments are truly inspirational. There is nothing more wonderful than seeing the enthusiasm and innocence of children. I love you for the person you are and you mom for being so strong and becoming a survivor.
